Technical Excursion
There is an optional technical excursion on Monday 27th February - it will likely take in the host institute, plus a visit to a local farm. There will be a small charge to contribute to the cost of transport (30 euros).
Tourist Excursions
There are three options for the tourist excursions on Friday 2nd March - a morning excursion, an afternoon excursion, or to take both. More detailed information on each of these is given below. If you require any further information before registering, please contact ekaterina@apex-mice.ru .

Morning Option
A sight-seeing guided bus tour of Saint Petersburg including the visit to the Peter and Paul Fortress and St. Isaac Cathedral

Founded by Peter the Great as a “Window to Europe” on the marshy Neva land Saint Petersburg has turned to be the architectural “Pearl of the Baltic” and the heart of cultural and political life of Tsarist Russia with Romanov dynasty turning the country from a buffer state to the Great Empire.
You will visit The Peter and Paul Fortress – founded in 1703 the formidable bastion. The Peter and Paul Cathedral is the burial-vault of the whole Romanov dynasty.
You will have an opportunity to see the former Stock Exchange buildings, the Academy of Science, the State University, Menshikov Palace and the Academy of Arts, the monument to Peter the Great called Bronze Horseman and the St Isaac's Cathedral, the city’s main avenue, Nevsky Prospect, which has long been adorned by such splendid buildings as the Kazan Cathedral, the House of Books, the Anichkov Bridge (with its famous equestrian statues), the Beloselsky-Belozersky Palace and other numerous Empire palaces of our city. Among the rich parade of sights to be enjoyed will be Palace Square with its 156-foot high column erected as a monument to Russia’s victory over Napoleon and with the Winter palace, Senate Square, plus the bridges and embankments of the Palmyra of the North. During the tour you will have a few photo stops.

Tour to Pushkin including visit to Ekaterininskiy Palace and park.

Pushkin - Tsarskoe Selo (Royal Village), located 25 km south of St. Petersburg, first appeared in the 18C as the summer residence of the Russian tsars.
Created for two centuries by many prominent architects, the unique architectural ensemble of Pushkin is world famed for its elegant palaces and pavilions, landscape parks and ponds, 18-century marble statues and historic obelisks.
This "town of Muses" inspired many celebrated Russian poets, painters and musicians to create their renowned masterpieces in music and art.
The splendor of new architectural ensemble immediately caused everybody’s admiration and delight. Tsarskoe Selo became the place for official receptions of Russian nobility and representatives of foreign states, who were visiting Russia with diplomatic missions.
